Were enjoying relatively quiet weather but there is one pretty impressive storm in another part of the world. Hurricane Felicia is maintaining its intensity as a category four hurricane over the open eastern Pacific ocean this afternoon about 1500 miles east of Hilo, Hawaii. The Hawaiian islands are closely monitoring this storm as current forecasts carry the storm into the Big Island (the southeastern most island in the state) The storm will likely encounter higher amounts of shear and cooler water temperatures as it moves towards the islands, but the islands look to see at least some effects from this storm.
Here is a look at the latest satellite image from Felicia. As you can see the storm has a large well defined eye and is very symmetrical. The storm remains in a favorable area for further intensification and could grow a bit stronger tonight before likely beginning a weakening trend some time tomorrow.
